In the 1938, publication of "History of Woodford County, Kentucky", historian William E. Railey described Woodford County as the "Garden of the Blue Grass" because of its undulating slopes, so gradual as to give perfect drainage", the fertility of the soil, and many other superior qualities "as apparent today as in the days of our forefathers".

We share Railey's affection for Woodford County, and it is our desire to do all that we can as public health servants to ensure that the Garden of the Blue Grass remains a healthy and safe place for all Woodford County residents to live, love, learn, work, play, and retire.
