Anyone interested in the Cooper/Clayton Method to Stop Smoking program is encouraged to attend. There will be no charge for the class. The only cost to the participant is for nicotine patches, nicotine gum or nicotine lozenge.  Participants will have the option to pay $5.00 to purchase a one week supply of the Nicoderm CQ patch at each session (does not include the nicotine gum or lozenge). 10,000 Step Challenge

The Woodford County Health Department is challenging you to take 10,000 steps a day.  The goal of the twelve-week program is to increase walking among participants to meet and exceed the recommended health goal of taking 10,000 steps per day.  A person who walks 10,000 steps a day will burn between 2,000 and 3,500 extra calories per week, which will result in achieving a better health profile and longer lifespan.  Even at the slowest pace, taking 10,000 steps can help prevent osteoporosis, reduce your chances of heart disease, lower blood pressure and strengthen your muscles. This program offers a comfortable, gradual approach for increasing walking endurance.  The cost of the program is $10 and includes a pedometer and a body fat analysis. For more information or to register please call 873-4541.

Postponing Sexual Involvement (PSI)

The educational series, Postponing Sexual Involvement (PSI), is an effective program to reduce teen pregnancy.  PSI promotes abstinence only.  It is taught by trained role model teen leaders who are supervised and assisted by a health educator.

The first session encourages students to talk to parents and teachers to get facts.  They are taught that sexual messages on TV, advertisements, songs, and videos usually glamorize sex to sell a product and rarely show any consequences such as pregnancy or disease.  The next four sessions deal with peer pressure and how to say no without hurting feelings.  This program is designed for preteens and young teens and the material is age appropriate.

Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU)

The T.A.T.U. Program employs a peer-teaching model as the delivery mechanism to teach young people about tobacco use and become advocates for tobacco-free communities. Peer involvement and communication are based on face-to-face interactions and planned activities. Planned activities stimulate active participation, learning and role-playing, which provide real world, age-appropriate experiences.  Currently, Woodford County High School collaborates with Woodford County Health Department to train students in the medical science program to present the program to 5th grade classrooms.
