The Woodford County Health Department provides group health
education and promotion activities to the community. These activities may be provided in schools, factories, churches,
civic events, senior citizen centers, day cares, places of business and other
locations. 
A
Certified Health Education Specialist, and Registered Nurse are available to provide education and counseling on topics such as
safety, nutrition, hypertension, diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease,
fitness, HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, personal hygiene and weight
management.
Walking Programs
Walk for Your Heart is a 10-week walking program for the
Woodford County community. The participants set their own walking goals. Incentives and support are provided along
the way.
Tobacco
Control and Prevention Programs
The Cooper-Clayton Method to Stop Smoking Program is
available from a trained facilitator.
This facilitator is also available for classroom and community
presentations on the effects of smoking.
Arthritis
Programs
The WCHD provides the leader for the Arthritis Foundation
Aquatic Program at Falling Springs Arts and Recreation Center in Versailles.
This program is conducted in a heated pool.
Participants are led through a series of specially designed exercises
that can help joint flexibility and relieve the pain or stiffness associated
with arthritis and related conditions.
Arthritis Self-Help Course and Fibromyalgia Self-Help
Course
Designed to help individuals (family and friends) take an
active role in arthritis management.
These classes provide an opportunity for learning, practicing stress
management and other self-help behaviors.
The classes help individuals manage their pain, stiffness, fatigue, and
deal with the changing emotions associated with arthritis and related
conditions.
PACE (People with Arthritis Can Exercise)
This is a land exercise program for individuals with
moderate to severe joint involvement. Participants go through a series of
gentle movements and activities designed to increase mobility and range of
motion.
Arthritis Support Group
This group provides the opportunity to discuss problems,
concerns or frustrations and to offer encouragement and helpful hints to each
other. It brings together individuals
facing the challenges associated with living with arthritis.
Community
Health Activities
Healthy Start In Day Care
The health department provides a registered nurse
consultant to area day care centers.
The consultant helps assure day care centers are meeting the highest
health, safety and nutrition standards.
HANDS (Health, Access, Nurturing, Development Services)
The health department provides staff to conduct a voluntary
home visitation program for first-time parents and their babies. The goal of HANDS is to build upon parents’
strengths to improve the health and development of babies.
Other
Community Services
Child Safety Seats
A limited number of car seats are available. This program is based on income. Instruction
on appropriate installation of the car seat is part of this program. The United Way of Woodford County funds the
car seat program.
Sharps Container Exchange Program
Containers for safe syringe disposal (sharps containers)
are provided without a charge to individuals that are injection dependent. The
health department will safely dispose of the filled container when it is
exchanged.
Vital Statistics
By law, the County Registrar is an employee of the health department. The Registrar appoints Deputy Registrars as needed. Individuals wishing to order a copy of a birth or death certificate may obtain an application at the health department. The Office of Vital Statistics in Frankfort, Kentucky issues all copies of birth and death certificates.
